Walker Residence

A residential project for a new home in Baton Rouge’s Rouzan neighborhood. I worked together with multiple other designers throughout the process. The small, cozy side yard features a cocktail pool with fountain scuppers spilling out of the wall. To host family and friends, the client asked for multiple seating areas which are present in an outdoor kitchen, a fire pit area, the pool, and a small bar-top. The front steps and the steps for the pool are also made more accessible with the inclusion of handrails.

This project taught me some important lessons about working within a limited space: the material choices and program elements included have a profound impact on how the space feels to users. This project was ultimately successful because of the intimate layout of elements which created a comfortable space for hosting small gatherings.

Conceptual and schematic work

This project’s design process was unique in that most of the conceptual and schematic design work was performed in SketchUp and rendered in Lumion. The small size of the site allowed the team to iterate ideas quickly in this format.

The project was recognized by the Baton Rouge Growth Coalition and received a Good Growth Award in 2021.
